Hot-water PDM coring drilling system is planned to use together with hot-water drill system for coring in ice and bedrock by changing of hot-water drill nozzle to positive displacement motor (PDM) of 5LZ73×7.0 type, core barrel and drill bit. PDM converts hydraulic energy of hot-water flow into rotation and torque, and reliable anti-torque system is also necessary for balance. The drill bits are designed in two versions. The first one is suitable for ice core drilling, the drill system doesn’t need chips chamber, because hot-water will melt all the ice chips while drilling. The second version is designed for ice with rocks or soil, coring system need chips chamber for chips collection. The core samples are protected in the inner core barrel from thermal and mechanical erosion caused by hot-water circulation. The detailed concept of ice and subglacial bedrock PDM corer is being worked out.
